These shoes also have golden ankle bands, red and black metal cuffs, and dark gray armor extending up to his knees. On his hand he wears sliver metal gloves with golden wrist bands, metallic dark gray cuffs, metallic red glove tongues, and short forearm armor, and on his feet he wears shoes similar to the Air Shoes, but stylized as sabatons. He also wears dark gray torso armor with dark gray shoulder armor and silver armor plating on the front that resembles Shadow's chest fur. Both of these armor pieces also have a red line of armor traveling down their middle. This visor is further connected to dark gray armor plating covering his top middle quill. He has red stripes on each of his head quills, around the edges of his eyes, and on his legs.įor attire, he wears a dark gray metallic visor with silver edges and sharp upper corners over his eyes. He also has six quills on his head, four of which curve upwards while the other two curve downwards, two spines on his back, and a small tail. He has red eyes, a tan muzzle, and tan ear canals. As such, he is a black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog. In the second boss battle against him, the song has lyrics.Lancelot is essentially a doppelganger of his mainstream counterpart. In the first boss battle against him, the song is instrumental.
King Arthur is unlockable in battle mode by collecting the five books detailing the story of King Arthur during regular gameplay. So that would technically mean that Sonic was the REAL King Arthur the entire time. When Sonic brings the scabbard to Merlina, she reveals that King Arthur was never there, just an illusion created by Merlin, and it was merely part of her plan to acquire it for her own ends.ĭespite the fact that he is also first seen as King Arthur by everyone's eyes, Sonic's blade Caliburn reveals that since he is a legendary sacred sword, his duty is to decide who is fit for the crown. The second time is a more heated duel at Castle Avalon (the Black Knight apparently taking Sonic seriously this time) where Sonic is able to use the Knight's swords to nullify the scabbard's power and defeat him.Īfter being bested by Sonic, the Black Knight fades away, leaving nothing but his scabbard. The first time is shortly after obtaining Caliburn the Sword, but lacking both the swords and the skill, he is unable to defeat him and the Black Knight leaves after deeming Sonic not worth his time. Sonic faces the Black Knight twice during the game. Sonic prepares to fight the Black Knight (not knowing he couldn't kill him) before being dragged away by Merlina. He is first seen chasing Merlina right before she summons Sonic. His scabbard grants him immortality, making him impossible to defeat without obtaining the three blades held by the Knights of the Round Table. His powers include using his blade, Deathcalibur, to summon Underworld minions to do his bidding and firing magical bolts on top of his impressive sword skills.
He has strong relations with the Knights of the Round Table, as they still serve him despite his change. One day, King Arthur was bewitched and became corrupt when the power of immortality was bestowed upon him by his scabbard, becoming the Black Knight.
He was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata in the Japanese version and by Gavin Hammon in the English version. He was an illusion created by Merlina's grandfather who became corrupted after gaining ultimate power and immortality from Excalibur's scabbard. King Arthur, also known as the Black Knight is a powerful knight who wields the Deathcalibur and the titular central antagonist in Sonic and the Black Knight. With the greatest of knights at my command and with the power of this scabbard, I shall rule these lands.
